The Telegraphs' cricket Analyst is right on the first point though, English cricket needs some clarity with its one-day fixtures.

As for the team, England have finished 5th in the world, which judging by their ranking and the fact that they didn't lose to any lesser teams says it wasn't the worst World Cup campaign.

The low crowds for this cricket world cup have been due to over-pricing and strict rules applied to what can and can't be brought into and done inside the grounds. But this will obviously detract from any atmosphere and water-down any local feeling for any visitors.

England gained their first 2 points in the Super 8's of this year's world cup, but the top order batting was unconvincing, nowhere near in as much ascendency as they should have been against the lower ranked opposition.

I agree with Gavin Hamilton's reaction to Michael Holding's comments that there should be fewer smaller nations involved in the World Cup.

Why can't Fletcher et al give him a whole series to stake his claim? Rather than calling him in when the pressure is on (He certainly delivered against Pakistan!).

It would be great if England could make the final, and I wouldn't say any team is going into the tournament with a great run of form, no better than ours!!

England showed real control through the bowling of Flintoff, Panesar and workhorse Collingwood and a couple of late Plunkett wickets killed off the Kiwis just 14 short.
